Thanks ra! Unfortunately, it's not really under my control. It seems to be taking it's own sweet fucking time.

'American Beauty' would be a good start to The Grateful Dead's discography (which is massively inconsistent in quality). I started off with 'Dark Star' - hoping it would be, given its song length, another 'In A Gadda Da Vida' - but that didn't turn out to be the case.

But why, Laddu, why?
The Lamp of Thoth - Portents, Omens and Dooms This is amazing. Kind of like a modern Cirith Ungol meets Witchfinder General meets Pentagram but with a solid sense of humour and some terrific heavy metal songs.

Oh yeah, The Lamp of Thoth is great stuff. All I have is their EP though.

Now Playing: Jarboe - The House Of Void (Visceral Mix) - [Mahakali] - [01:59 of 08:44]
Woah. This is different. Not what I was expecting. Not bad either. So far so good. The Usha Uthup-isms can be irksome though. The ritualistic atmosphere kicks ass.

Now Playing: Dianogah - A Breaks B - [Qhnnnl] - [01:37 of 03:56]
Minimalistic math rock with two basses. Ranges from warm and mellow to harsh and noisy.

hahahhaha Lamp of Thoth sounds like Harsh Chaya's lisping faggot character from Fashion trying to say Lamb of God. Been hearing the new Memory Garden - Carnage Carnival and whaddya know, this is pretty fucking good. I had hopes that this band would one day do something really worthwhile - even their very uneven Mirage, the only album I've heard by them, held a certain promise that was never quite realised. But on first listen this seems to be quite a stellar example of melodic doom - maybe not as good as the best by Candlemass, but leagues ahead of their last disasterous boring album. Also Viking Skull - Doom, Gloom, Heartache, Whiskey, a horrifyingly derivative album, but one that's still mostly fun while it lasts. The first two songs had me a bit annoyed but in the third song, where the standard order Children of the Grave riff slips into a breakdown that fuses equal parts of Snowblind and Iron Man, I couldn't help but smile and nod along. The album is full of moments like that. The solos are a load of bollocks though. I'd prefer it if this band didn't play leads.

Really liking Lamp of Thoth - Portents, Omens and Doom. This is pretty good all the way through and excellent for when riding around. Still tripping on the new Jarboe and that Anselmo song has really grown on me. Also, heard this very cool band called Woven Hand, basically a one man singer songwriter kind of thing and the album Ten Stones sits somewhere between Anathema, folk and Nick Cave with emphasis on keyboards and some very cool vocas. Good stuff overall.

Also been playing the new Dianogah, Jarboe, Don Caballero's Punkgasm and Unwound's Challenge For A Civilized Society.

Am totally loving the new Almah album. In the manner of the best power metal albums, it seems kinda cliched the first time you hear it, then you find yourself humming random bits from it and the next thing you know, you are hooked. While still not as good as the debut, Fragile Equality is a very fun album with some truly stellar performances.
Spun a couple of hair metal classics. Dr Feelgood and Out of this World by Europe.

Lamp of Thoth was on repeat all day yesterday and its fucking great. Just lots of fun doomy heavy metal that has made me completely forget the new Hammers of Misfortune, Memory Garden and Heathendom albums. Really good stuff. also been listening to SuperHeavyGoatAss - Nemesis and it's pretty damn good. Sitting somewhere between Blast Tyrant era Clutch and Wiseblood era COC this is one heavy rock n roll with a swagger album. Assrockers - Suggestive Material is brilliant fun and sounds like the perfect pub band. The music is total garage rock and incredibly catchy at that.

Now Playing: The Sea and Cake - An Echo in - [Glass (Limited Edition EP)] - [03:27 of 04:30]
Has anybody heard these guys? Sea And Cake? Essentially pop with a lot of clever post rock/math rock/jazzy moments. Very catchy stuff. Don't know how fast they'll wear off though, but I like right now.
