ImageSepultura played in Bangalore last night. Apart from the fact that a couple of years ago, this would have seemed like some ridiculous rumour, I wasn't too keen on going. Max and Igor were both not around and I hadn't heard any Sepultura after Against. Still, this was Sep and I went with the Panaman and a couple of other chaps to the show after the mandatory coffee. As we got to the venue, Brahma was finishing their set with what sounded like a cover of For Whom The Bell Tolls.

Then of course came a long wait for the main attraction. Sepultura finally took the stage to some enthusiasm from the crowd and opened with Refuse/ Resist from Chaos AD. Two things became apparent almost immediately. The sound was kickass and new drummer Jean Donabella can more than hold his own and fill in the giant boots of Igor Cavalera.

The one thing that was a bit of a peeve was that Derrick Green didn't introduce any of the new songs. While some of it sounded good, I have no idea what the songs were called or what album they were from. That though was about 5 songs of the set along with Spit from Against.

Apart from this, we got treated to killer renditions of Slave New World, Biotech Is Godzilla, Troops Of Doom, Arise, Inner Self and Desperate Cry not to mention Dead Embryonic Cells (which your friendly reviewer failed to recognise) and a killer Beneath The Remains. Along with all of this, we also got a pretty interesting cover of U2's Bullet The Blue Sky.

The band looked and sounded great and Jean Donabella was simply awesome behind the drumkit. Derrick Green is an imposing frontman with awesome presence, not to mention the fact that he's made these classic Sepultura songs his own. His vocals on Troops Of Doom and Desperate Cry in particular were kickass. Andreas Kisser sounded killer last night and I for one didn't miss the second guitarist at all. Also, his backing vocals worked really well.

The band ended the set with Roots and unfortunately this was the only low point of the show for me as the Brahma vocalist and some other moron got on stage to contribute vocals with Green. This led to a very muffled vocal approach on what should have been a blistering set closer.

It's less than 12 hours since Sepultura finished their set and my neck is stiff, my body hurts from the three man mosh pit and for all you losers who didn't turn up because this wasn't the tr00 Sepultura, I only have one thing to say.

You should have been there.

Refuse/ Resist
Dead Embryonic Cells
Arise
Beneath The Remains
Troops Of Doom
Inner Self
Desperate Cry
Spit
Orgasmatron
Roots
Biotech Is Godzilla
Territory
Slave New World
Kaiowas
4-5 new songs that I didn't know.

GK's review is up.

As I was telling the boys during Bullet the Blue Sky, it was good to hear a U2 song played by a good drummer, bassist, vocalist and a guitarist.

Pity couldn't be there. But I don't really feel like I missed something other than a good show...

Yeah, I'm echoing Ravi. Plus, I have a long running tradition of missing good show.
