You know how if you go to IMDb and check the memorable quotes from a classic hardass film like The Outlaw Josey Wales, the list of brilliant deliveries just keeps going on and on? Every single episode of Venture Bros is like that! I've said it several times before, but these guys just have an incredible ability to belt out lines that just stick in your head long after the episode is over. It's practically a miracle that some of that dialog is actually relevant to the plot. Sure, the voice acting is also outstanding, but you can tell that the reason they're going the extra mile is that their material is so much fun.
For the clueless, The Venture Bros is the best show on Adult Swim, Cartoon Network's 'mature' branch and most likely the best show on tv today, period. You can get the scoop on seasons 1 and 2 right here. Fanboys had been kept waiting interminably for the third, and knowing how cruel life can be to quality shows (anybody who's heard of Firefly shouldn't need further evidence), we were prepared for the heart-wrenching possibility that we would Venture no more. That's Venture with a capital V - we could still do regular venturing, I think. But then we finally saw light at the end of the tunnel - and not just any light, it was a goddamn supernova! Season 3 was underway and upon us, and just like that, all was right with the world again. Ok, enough with the fanboy fellatio. Time for the million dollar question - how was it for us? How do you think, bitch?! This is no-can-fail territory! (Hm, still on hoover duty...that's just a bit disturbing)
This season starts by grabbing the ball from where the preceding one left it and tearing across the field. The opening credits of the first episode substitute the usual animations with a new sequence featuring The Monarch and Dr.Girlfriend (or Dr.Mrs.Girlfriend, to be mindbendingly precise) and the whole episode has no sign of anybody with Venture blood in them. People with Venture blood on them...now that's a different matter. The couple, having been apprehended by the Guild of Calamitous Intent shortly after their eventful wedding ceremony, are being interrogated under suspicion of...well, I'm not sure what, but I guess the Guild doesn't really need a reason to withhold civil liberties. Anyway, to cut it short, the inquisition doesn't stray far from whimsical territory, and in no time, we're back to the usual fare. As far as the overall plot progression of the series is concerned, they pull out stuff from their usual bag of tricks, throwing in some character development here, introducing new people into the menagerie, venturing into the pasts of our friendly neighbourhood adventurers and even managing some cunning retconning in the process.
